Free Health Camp at Ghona Gharbi (Chak 196-RB)

The year 2011 started with a free health camp for Emed at a village Ghona Gharbi, which is in the rural belt of the city Faisalabad. Emed organized the camp on Monday, 17.1.2011, in collaboration with All Pakistan Diabetes & Endocrine Society (APDES) & Forum for Awareness of Vitamin-D (FAD). One of the collaborators of emed & Manager Shaheed Benazir Women Crises Cell, Mrs Kanwal Shahzadi suggested the camp & its site & did all the arrangements.

Following a long standing tradition of Emed (since 2007), the camp offered free screening tests on sugar, cholesterol, calcium, vitamin-D & BMI (Body mass index) with free medical advice by the doctors & lady doctors.

The Co-Chairperson of Shaheed Benazir Women Crises Cell, Miss Rubina Shahab & members Executive Board, Mrs Kausar Butt & Mrs Ishaq played the pivotal roll in gathering the poor & non-affording people of the village for free screening tests & the medical advice.

Doctors payed their volunteer services at the camp from 11 am to 4 pm and the team included Dr Sajid, Dr Rehan, Dr Shahid, Dr Zaheer & Dr Mudassar Faiza, an active and agile member of Emed.

President Emed, President APDES & President FAD Prof Ahmad Bilal visited the camp & stayed for sometime to examine the patients. He found it very alarming that screening tests discovered 50 new cases of diabetes mellitus, 20 new hypertensive cases & one new case of hypo thyroidism. All these people didn’t know about their diseases before going for the screening tests.

Talking on the occasion with the members of the Executive Board of SBWCC, General Secretary Emed, Dr Khurram Sohail Raja, briefed them on the activities & achievements of Emed with special reference to the regular health camping in the slums & poor localities of the city. The members appreciated the efforts & found it very useful in creating awareness among the people regarding health issues.

The camp concluded at 4 p.m. & all the doctors thanked Mrs Kanwal Shehzadi on her arrangements & hospitality towards the Emed team of doctors & pharmaceutical staff.
