Lecture on Poison Information Centre by Dr Shireen Khan


On April 28th, 2008, a sensitization lecture on the establishment of a Poison Information Centre was delivered by Dr Shireen Khan on behalf of Prof Dr Jamal Ara who is National Coordinator for Chemical Safety & Incharge National Poison Control Centre at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical College, Karachi .

Dr Shireen Khan is a famous child specialist, host of many health TV talk shows of Pakistan & a master trainer in the training of the doctors for the poison information centre.

She came all the way from Karachi (Pakistan) to the Medical Unit-III, Allied Hospital Faisalabad where Prof Ahmad Bilal & Provincial Coordinator for Chemical Safety, Dr Khurram Sohail Raja received her. Doctors from the medical units were invited in Medical Unit-III on the occasion.

Dr Shireen Khan delivered a presentation on all aspects of the establishment of the poison information centre including computer data, links with WHO, training of the doctors, pharmacists & the staff nurses, funds, location & logistics.

She presented the role model of the poison information centre in Agha Khan Medical Complex Karachi running for the last 10 years.

Young doctors present on the occasion showed particular interest in the topic & had a long question-answer session with Dr Shireen Khan at the end of the presentation.

This was followed by a small presentation on emed from the hosts to the guest. Dr Shireen Khan appreciated the work done by emed & All Pakistan Diabetes & Endocrine Society (APDES) & also accepted the invitation of attending 3rd Annual Diabetes & Endocrine Conference in November 2008, as a guest speaker.

Prof Ahmad Bilal thanked Dr Shireen Khan & Prof Jamal Ara for arranging the awareness lecture for the doctors.
